WIIWTHTWI:X

(2018)

custom electronics, modified video game engine
variable dimensions

In 2008 Harmon created What it is Without the Hand That Wields It, an electronic mechanical sculpture that was connected to a modified version of the video game Counterstrike. When gamers on the internet killed one another, the sculpture manifested the virtual kills physically by incrementally releasing streams of blood into a gallery, thereby bridging the two realities. Escalated 10 years later as a meditation on and reflection of Internet forum commentary on the original sculpture, the work was re-staged as WIIWTHTWI:X in collaboration with Evan Blackstone - a resurrected version in the form of a 3 day endurance performance, live stream, LAN as social sculpture, and new electronics that mixed and conflated the virtual with the physical location.
